Knives

The enjoyment and appreciation of knives is a tricky admission in this world of heightened sensitivity to such things. There is an unfortunate stigma attached to them in that anything other than the tiniest of pen knives is often viewed as a deadly weapon, and the person who dares to carry one, a criminal. This is, of course, not true.

While some criminals do choose to use knives to commit crimes, it is important to remember that it was their intent to commit a crime and the knife was chosen to facilitate this. The mere presence of a knife alone does not turn an otherwise law-abiding citizen into a criminal.

With the disclaimer now out of the way, I freely admit that I do enjoy and appreciate a well-made knife. I have found this to be largely true of those who appreciate watches as well. I suspect the cross-over has a lot to do with the admiration of the craftmanship and precision involved.

My knife collection is very humble. The knives I have were chosen for function rather than some sort of wow-whee appeal. The choice was further refined by way craftmanship and, to a lesser extent, price.
